Kyokushin means the 'ultimate truth', developed by Masutatsu Ōyama from 1953, and is a form of karate known to strengthen the body and the hardest techniques in the karate world.

When it was introduced in the Western world, it was not allowed by the government to be practiced in its pure form and therefore full-, semi-  and non-contact were created as forms that could be regognised as a sport.

Full contact, semi contact and non-contact are three different ways of comepeting in this Budo sport.

The full contact does not allow hitting the face while semi contact allows this, only in a controled manner.

Kyokushin karate resulted in other forms that we know, such as Japanese Kickboxing (Kenji Kurosaki) and Kyokushin Budokai.

Kyokushinkai karate was introduced in the Netherlands in the early sixties by Jon Bluming.

Jon Bluming started training under Oyama in 1959, after which he founded the Dutch Karate Association (the N.K.A.) in 1962. Bluming is a holder of the 10th dan.

This is the highest possible degree of achievement, which can be  by the governmentachieved and is considered exceptionally honorable. Jon BLuming was also awarded the honorary 11th dan by his students.

Bluming was awarded the degree in 1994 by Kenji Kurosaki. Other 10th dan holders are Kenji Kurosaki, Steve Arneil.

       ZEN KYOKUSHIN

Zen Kyokushin and Zen karate were developed by  Hanshi Robert Matulessy as a form of  Kyokushin style in which mood, and coupling between mind and body become more central. Hanshi Matulessy was honored as a visionairy of Zenkyokushin as a part of Zen karate by Jon Bluming on 07-06-2017.  In this form of karate one finds the Dyhana from Zen Buddhism, while during the performance of the Kata's and the techniques one always returns to the inner thoughts of the action that is being taken at that moment. The best way to discribe it is: The ways of Zen put forth a long path for people of all social origins and ages to reach contemplative calm and unison with all there is and beyond that. Zenkyokushin is on that path and adds the Zenshifting method whereby anyone that invests his time and spirit can reach the tenth state of Zen-mind and body while performing  Budokai zenkyokushin  Kyokushinkai, zenkyokushinkai and Zenkyokushin Bungkai. Zen, Karate, Kyokushin as our mission goals are transecedental and the final harmonius state of human body and soul.

It is possible to train for competitions from this teaching, but the aim is to be accessible to everyone and to participants of all ages.

Lessons in Zenkarate take place worldwide and the head Dojo, Honbu, is situated on the Travertijnstraat 12 in Groningen, the netherlands.
